I’ve worn contacts since high school, but always wore clear prescription lenses. Last summer I learned about circle lenses, and the virtually unlimited possibilities inspired me to try a pair of colored lenses for the first time. I decided that I wanted lenses that looked as natural as possible, just to change up my look every now and then… I’m not the type of person that matches my eyes with my outfit, makeup or whatever. Also, I have a pretty strong prescription that’s different for my right vs left eye, so I needed to be able to specify different strengths when I ordered. After extensive research of brands from all over the world, I decided on the Brazilian brand Solotica because they looked the most natural and had good coverage for dark-colored eyes. When I was researching Solotica last year they had 3 base types of lenses with a variety of colors available for each (They have since expanded their line to include less natural-looking types, but I’m not including those here):
- You will need to have your prescription information to order the correct strength. If you already wear contact lenses, your prescription can usually be found on the box or container they come in. If not, call your eye doctor and ask for it.
- These lenses are sold individually, so make sure you order 2 lenses in the correct prescription, and not just one!
- The liquid inside the vials that the lenses are shipped in is NOT saline solution, and it will BURN if you take them out and use them right away. Instead, soak them (preferably overnight) in your regular contact solution before using them (I know it’s hard to wait!)
- These only last for a year, don’t try to use them past their expiration date. I’m not sure what exactly changes after a year, but I do know that your eyes are much too precious to play around with… go ahead and just buy a new pair.
