I bought a pack of 5/8″ satin rollers by Diane a couple months ago when I was still considering getting a sew-in weave. The Indian Wavy hair that I bought from HairAreUs curls really easily, and I thought these satin rollers would be a great alternative to a curling iron. A pack of 14 rollers cost $2.50 at my local beauty supply store, so it wasn’t a huge expense if they didn’t work. This past weekend, I decided to try them on my own hair to see what would happen, not really expecting much of anything. My hair does NOT hold a curl well at all – my best option is to wet-set with Curlformers, or steam set with Caruso rollers for any chance of a lasting curl. Even then, I usually only get 1-2 days out of the style. So anyway, it was the night after my last workout of the week, and I had just washed/blow-dried/straightened my hair. When I flat-iron my hair after a blowout, I curl the ends a bit so it has movement & bounce. By the second day, the curls have mostly fallen out, and my hair is more or less straight again until I re-wash etc. I put in the satin rollers before bed, thinking that at the very least, they would hopefully keep the curls fresh for the morning. I didn’t use any additional heat or products, just rolled the rollers halfway up my hair & went to sleep (by the way – VERY comfy to sleep on, didn’t bother me at all). In the morning, I was amazed at how bouncy & curly my hair was! I finger-combed them & hoped for the best, but was absolutely blown away by how they lasted & lasted! I’m now on day 4 (without doing anything to protect the curls at night – no pin-curling, wrapping, bonneting, etc), and my hair is STILL curly. I’m so excited, because these were much easier to do & sleep on than curlformers, and last longer than both curlformers & caruso sets! My hair is also bouncier & shinier than with any other method! I filmed a quick tutorial for YouTube that shows how I used the rollers – my hair is already curly in the video because this was 2 days after I tried them out (day 2 curls by the way – see how bouncy/curly my hair still is!!) and I didn’t have time to re-wash/blowdry/straighten to show a true before/after. I’ll update this post with actual before/after photos later this week when I wash again.
Here’s a true before/after of this style, which was missing in the original post. I rolled all the way to the top this time (instead of only halfway) which resulted in tighter curls, check it out!
