I was recently invited to LA by Creme of Nature to try out their new relaxer, Straight from Eden. Creme of Nature has worked hard with a team of scientists for the past 4 years developing an entirely new kind of relaxer, and it’s finally ready! We all know that even though relaxed hair can be healthy hair, but we can’t deny that harsh chemicals are used to get it that way. Creme of Nature set out to change that, and has successfully developed the first ever plant-derived straightening creme… pretty exciting, no? In addition to an all-natural base, they added avocado, olive, and coconut oils to completely nourish & moisturize your hair even while relaxing, which is probably my favorite part. After you add in the activating liquid & creme booster, the mixture acts like a normal relaxer, but without any of the chemicals found in other traditional relaxers, like lye, mineral oil, petrolatum, propylene glycol, sulfates, parabens, and formaldehyde (P.S. Full list of ingredients at the bottom!). I’m so honored to have been chosen to try out this revolutionary product, and have to say that I absolutely love it! I took a ton of photos to document the trip, and somehow got it down to a (relatively) manageable number to share here – enjoy!
Day #1: Travel & Arrival
I’ve gotten really good at packing only a carry-on for trips to avoid set-backs like waiting HOURS at baggage claim, or worse – having your luggage lost. I had a quick layover in Houston, but everything went pretty seamlessly. There was a driver waiting at LAX to take me to my hotel – the Andaz Hyatt in West Hollywood. I LOVED everything about the hotel! The rooms were gorgeous (mine had an awesome view of Sunset blvd), there was free wine between 5-7pm nightly (!!), and you could walk to a bunch of awesome nearby restaurants/shops (although apparently, no one in LA walks). I shared the room with a girl from NY names Rosie, who is a YouTube vlogger/blogger as well. I had a burrito from Poquito Mas down the street, and was blown away by how good it was for a fast food place – I forgot that LA has awesome Mexican food![g-slider gid=”3527″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
Day #2: Prep Day!
On prep day, we were taken to Rehab Salon to try out the new product. Rehab is located in the back of an adorable boutique, full of colorful trinkets, accessories, and other interesting items. It was hard not to buy everything I saw, although I did take advantage of the 50% off sale items at Urban Outfitters across the street – a crop sweater, “leather” skirt & jogging pants – all for $5 each! But anyway. There were 6 girls total getting manicures & their hair done all at once, and pure magic was involved to get it done. Seriously have no idea how it got done! It was very cool to see all the different textures involved, we ranged from die-hard relaxed (me, lol) to completely natural. Each of us had a print-out of the style we would be getting, and were matched to a stylist. My style was a side part ala Beyonce, and I had a mini America’s-Next-Top-Model makeover meltdown in my head (first of many that day) when I saw the light brown/blonde colors in the photos, but I was relieved to find that I wasn’t getting dyed![g-slider gid=”3642″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
Day #3: Shoot Day #1
After a night of going to great lengths to keep our hair in perfect condition, it was shoot day! While the production crew, makeup artists, and hairstylists set up, we ate breakfast. I was surprised to see that all of the video equipment was DSLR-based, many with prime lenses! I talked to a couple of the camera guys about photography, camera, and lenses – it was an awesome opportunity to pick professional brains.[g-slider gid=”3643″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
After breakfast, we each went through hair, makeup, and wardrobe to get camera-ready. I loved the little top I was given – definitely something I’d actually wear![g-slider gid=”3644″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
After a full day of shooting, we wrapped & went back to the hotel. Four of the girls all had flights home that night, so we said our goodbyes & I went to dinner with one model that actually lived in LA. We went to the Saddle Ranch (also right down the street from my hotel) & had fun watching a whole group of girls ride the mechanical bull one by one. There was also a guy that was very serious about his bull riding – that was hysterical to watch. For dessert, you’re given the option of a giant cotton candy tower, or a shot. I obviously couldn’t say no to GIANT COTTON CANDY![g-slider gid=”3645″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
Day #4 – Break
I had the day off, and spent it exploring Santa Monica. It was like a little city of all shopping, and I had to visit the Zara… I always try to get to one when traveling (lol).
Day #5 – Shoot day #2
My second day of shooting was pretty fun – they had me give a relaxer application tutorial, kind of like my relaxer application video on YouTube. The whole process was broken into steps, and took all day to film. We started with the finished look, then ended with me getting olive oil poured on my head (!!!). After we wrapped, I had a quick nap, then grabbed dinner with some of my cousins before leaving for the airport.[g-slider gid=”3646″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
I had SO MUCH fun, and met some amazing people along the way! Here’s a couple photos of me with the team, and credits are below![g-slider gid=”3647″ width=”100%” height=”55%” random=”0″ watermark=”0″]
