I can’t believe Valentine’s Day is over! I celebrated in an entirely different way this year, and I’m SO GLAD I DID because it was a BLAST! I partnered up with Femme & Fortune to host a Valentine’s Day Date Night giveaway, sponsored by retailers & business owners in the best-neighborhood-ever, Midtown Village. I’m more than a little biased because I live in Midtown Village, but seriously, it’s an awesome neighborhood – great restaurants, salons, and retail shops are EVERYWHERE, rent is affordable, and all the hot spots (like Rittenhouse, Old City, etc) are really easy to get to. It was such a great feeling to be able to make someone else’s day memorable, and we all had so much fun!
Dylan & her boyfriend Mike were the winners of the giveaway, and seriously – such a cute couple. Check out the recap below, I know you’re dying to!
Even though we were supposed to have perfectly sunny weather, it actually decided to snow like crazy that day, but we didn’t let it stop us! Dylan & Mike were picked up from their place in Northern Liberties by Uber, and brought to the first stop of the day, André Richard Salon. Keri McBride (hairstylist) & Barbarann Lathrop (hairstylist/makeup artist) were armed & ready to give Dylan & Mike a complete makeover for their big day!
Keri started with Dylan’s hair first, and I was amazed at how quickly she moved! After a quick consultation, they decided that given the weather, an updo was the best way to go. Literally, in less than 30 minutes, Dylan’s hair was done in a chic style that would withstand anything Mother Nature could throw!
After finishing up with Keri, it was time for makeup with Barbarann! She used makeup by Glo Minerals to give Dylan a soft, glam look, complete with rosy cheeks & dark lashes.
While Dylan was busy with Barbarann, Keri consulted with Mike. It was cute to overhear Mike’s typical-guy answers to questions about the kind of products he uses! Since he had just gotten his hair cut earlier in the week, Keri cleaned up his nape area, then blowdried his hair into a sweet pompadour. I was impressed by the transformation because you never really think of guys’ hair as able to change much, like you can with a girl’s!
We had time for a quick group photo with the team, before it was on to the next stop – El Vez for margaritas & guac! with Barbarann, Dylan, Mike, & Keri
Quick side story: Dylan & Mike had gone out the night before, and some asshole stole her wallet out of her bag. Credit cards, ID, everything – gone! When we got to Vez, they were being serious sticklers about carding (a little birdy tells me they were recently visited by an undercover agent), and wouldn’t let her drink without ID. Even after we explained the entire situation. And after I talked to the manager. Mike came to the rescue & went all the way back home to get Dylan’s passport so she could drink margs with the rest of us – let’s all give him a huge “AWWWWW” for that one… What a great guy!
Back to the recap: It was awesome to sip frozen Blood Orange margs while the snow blasted away outside. I even liked the Bazooka Limon guac that Dylan chose, and I’m not a guac person!
After we (ok, maybe just me) were buzzed & Dylan/Mike were sufficiently interviewed, we headed outside to snap photos in the snow on the way to our next stop. My coat has a HUGE hood, so I offered my umbrella to Dylan so her hair wouldn’t be battered by the wind/snow. I seriously couldn’t narrow down the photos any more than this – I love alllll these shots! So cute! So can-you-feel-the-LOVE!
After photos, we headed to Bella Turka to choose for a piece of jewelry from owner Koray’s vast collection of exotic beauties. I honestly have no idea how they were ever able to choose, I could spend all day trying to decide!
Somehow, Dylan settled on a gorgeous necklace, and we headed over to Vintage Wine Bar & Bistro to drop them off for dinner. They were welcomed with champagne, dined from a specially created Valentine’s menu, and enjoyed a selection of wines (obviously). After snapping a couple photos, Melissa & I left the couple to enjoy the rest of their night together. They were free to get as crazy as they wanted – Uber would make sure they got home safely!
A very special thank you to our sponsors for this amazing night, it wouldn’t have been possible without their incredible generosity!
