Have you heard of SpikeTV's new show, Frankenfood? Premiering this Sunday at 10:30p, it's a new cooking contest concept (say that three times fast!), that combines the weirdest ingredients into dishes that you think won't work, but magically do. Like fruity pebbles + fried chicken. Let me say that again: Fruity Pebbled Fried Chicken.
Anyway, to help promote the show, they have a food truck going around just casually handing out free concoction samples. Dear Spike: you can't just RANDOMLY do this!? I ran into it on Broad near Walnut, and sweet baby jesus! I tried one of the dishes, now I'm hooked, and will probably not get the chance to try the others. Life. Ruined. Hashtag FirstWorldProblems, don't judge me.
I (unfortunately) got there after most of everything was gone, but managed to snag one of the Guinness Chocolate Coated Pork Belly to try. My inner pyromaniac rejoiced when the guy pulled out his blowtorch to char my marshmallow... Definitely my go-to marshmallow roasting technique from now on!
The dish was definitely tasty - I've never had meat with marshmallows before, but they actually went together well! I would have added salt, but I add salt to everything. I hope I run across the truck again, I want to try everything!
