The set of keys that came with my apartment is ridiculous.
There are literally FIVE KEYS, three of which are JUST to unlock my door! Two of them look exactly the same but open different locks on my door, and it has been a major pain guessing which goes where. Sometimes I luck out and randomly pick the right combination, but usually don’t & take 15x longer to get inside. I’ve been meaning to color code the keys so I’d know which was which at a glance, and decided to DIY it rather than buying identifiers. Since I chose all pastel + neon colors, I started with 2 coats of white nail polish to really help the colors POP:
Then started painting each one a different color:
I applied 4 coats of color, followed by 2 coats of Poshe Base Coat and a coat of Seche Vite. The 2x base coat + seche vite combo keeps my nails chip free, figured it can’t hurt with the keys! SV dries pretty quickly, but I gave it an hour before flipping the keys & doing the other side. In between coats I used a small brush dipped in acetone to clean up edges for a neat & tidy finish. By the way – all those fumes started getting to me after a little while, so make sure to do this by an open window or with a ceiling fan going! I let the keys dry overnight, and voila! Aren’t they pretty?!
To get the keys back on my ring, I used a tip that I probably saw on Pinterest – use a staple remover to open the key ring instead of your fingernails! Way easier & no chipped nails =)
