A life goal of mine is to be able to hold my own in a conversation about wine… I want to be able to intelligently pair wines with whatever I’m eating rather than just sticking to my tried & true red & white. But where the hell do you start?! I was really excited to be invited to Pinot Boutique (227 Market Street) in Old City for their Wine Soiree – what better way to learn about wine, and right in the city?!
We were greeted at the door by Bravo Jazz Band as they played smooth jazz throughout the night – love live music & the ambiance it adds!
Next stop was crepes from Old City Frozen Yogurt & Crepes, Pinot’s next-door neighbor (lucky!!)
I had the turkey version with toasted almonds & honey mustard and Chris had the very popular Nutella version. He actually got the very last piece, it was such a hit!
Downstairs were philly cheesesteaks (which we completely missed) and pretzels from Campo’s, which I assumed were just there for hors d’oeuvres, but they were actually having a little wine tasting/pairing lesson with them!
Pinot has a Philly Food & Wine Pairing class and I love the low-pressure approach! Rather than worrying about expensive foods & wines, you learn about what Philly foods you can pair with wine, like pairing a sweet red with Peanut Chews (!!!) for a peanut-butter-and-jelly effect that was right on!
After tasting a bunch of different wines, I waited in line to have my fashion portrait drawn by Denise Fike. I had been DYING to be drawn by her ever since I saw her at the Flower Show, but the line there had been much, much too long & I didn’t have the time. I was really happy to see her at this event, as it was much more intimate & I was able to get drawn!@Ms_Shady getting her portrait done
